Jo Elms and Sam McNally share a unique musical union that combines Sam's expressive, expertise piano talents and Jo's beautiful vocal styling and guitar playing.
Jo, originally from Christchurch, New Zealand, and and Sam, from Melbourne Australia, have very different careers which have seen them individually work with the most respected names in the music industry, both here in Australia and overseas. Tina Arena, Mark Williams, Margaret Urlich, Tommy Emmanuel, John Farnham, Marcia Hines and Seals & Croft are only a few of the artists they've toured and recorded with. Their sound could be called "Jazzy" or Jazz+Lounge, minus predictable jazz cliches, because both musicians come from an extensive background in pop, rock, soul and jazz combined.
After five years working together, Jo and Sam have tailored a repertoire with unique renditions of songs like, The Greatest Love Of All, Imagine, Wicked Game, Wonderful World, The Look Of Love, Ticket To Ride, Don't Know Why, Fields Of Gold, Yesterday, Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For and The Way We Were, for example.
International work so far has included "True Color", Shenzhen, China for two months and a spot at the prestigious Java Jazz Festival in Jakarta, Indonesia - one of the largest in the world, which in 2007 featured internationally acclaimed Chaka Khan, Gino Vanelli, Sergio Mendez, Jamie Cullen and Marcus Miller. They've also appeared at Sydney's Manly Jazz Festival 2005, and the Darling Harbour Jazz Festival 2007.
This is a music outfit that plays 'for the room', and doesn't impose, yet entertains with genuine musical dynamics and colour. If a truly beautiful, jazzy ambience that sets the mood is what you're looking for, then this duo can't be beaten.
